Background
I have always enjoyed science, especially physics, from when I was a boy in the 1960's. After O-level I studied it for A-level, and was looking forward to going to university where i would at last have all the wonders laid out in front of me, no assumptions or difficult parts overlooked just a beautiful set of theories building one on another. Alas I soon discovered that although one eminent scientist believed something was black there was always another who was sure it was white. Nevertheless a great three years in swinging sixties London.
Now I am myself in late 60's I occasionally read a bit of maths and physics for simple enjoyment, much to the bemusement of family and friends who only see it at further commitment of my strangeness. I do think physics has become strange though, Big Bang, Higgs Boson, Dark Matter, Dark Energy etc. but perhaps this is just nostalgia.
